APOO: I am very sad to announce the possible ending of this short-lived blog. DMSC has just gave notice that with the bad economy, he cannot afford to eat out every Friday anymore. I guess that is the case for a lot of people too, including me. However, I cannot help but think that maybe DMSC doesn't like IG and I anymore and decided to split (and I am not joking, I really think that). This sad news has come with several others that are all making my day more and more gloomy. I am even contemplating on leaving work now...yes, I get emotional sometimes.
For me, there is one reason why canceling Friday lunch is most saddening and it has nothing to do with not having anything to look forward to every week. You see, the three of us barely talk at work during the week. Friday lunch is a time for us to spill all our frustrations and other matters we experience during the week, work or non-work related. In a way, our friendship builds upon every interesting or boring conversation we have during these lunches. Without them, I am afraid our bond will slowly fade. It's just like not being best friends with your old roommate anymore. Now that I have expressed how special these lunches mean to me, I am a little angry that it ended so quickly, literally in three sentences. [shaking fist...GRRR!!!]

IG: Guess what guys??? I'M BAACK!!! I found my login name and password to get back in to this account. YEA!! Aren't you guys glad?? I had read in the papers that the Green Door in Kahala Mall had closed and was moving back to Chinatown. APOO called the GD this morning, talked to the Betty (the owner and chef) and learned that the GD was open for lunch.

APOO: I heard from my friends that the owner/chef is sorta' mean. I was scared to call but I did anyway. Then we both got confused because I thought she was in Waialae, and Robert said she was in Kahala. BUT, she moved to downtown and kept the same phone number as before. So confusing!
DMSC: We stopped by this place a few weeks ago, but the Green Door was closed (literally). Today it was open. When we first walked in, we were surprised that there were only like 4 small tables with 3 seats each.

DMSC: There's no printed menu. There's a menu on the counter, printed on a chalkboard. There were only three dishes today. The interior of the restaurant was red, with the green door in the front. Very bold and striking colors.
APOO: I love green and I really wanted to take the door home. Then I realized it would be much easier to go buy green paint and paint all my doors green :)

APOO: These red lanterns were hovering over our heads in the restaurant. There are many artistic elements in this tiny restaurant that make it work. The bold colors of red and green just open your eyes. The large lanterns in a small space create a centerpiece that is conspicuous and makes everything fit together.

APOO: What you see is what you get! A small kitchen and one chef that create very delicious food.

DMSC: We each ordered the Malaysian Chicken Curry. APOO ordered a mini, I ordered a regular with a Coke, and IG ordered a regular and asked for water. When the price for IG's and mine were the same, he asked the cashier/cook why, and she said that he ordered water. IG started to ask why the water costed the same as the soda. I wanted him to stop arguing with the lady, because I read that when you upset the waitress, you will probably get your food spit in. And if she spit in his food, she might spit in my food too.
IG: Betty asked me if I wanted water, and I answered yes, thinking it would be a cup of water, but what I got was bottled water. That explained why the soda and wata both cost one dolla each! Betty was heating up some naan (Indian flat bread) in the frying pan and brought it to the seated customers. The naan look really good, and I wanted some, but Betty said, "No more, all gone." Bummer, I wanted naan!!
DMSC: Anyhow, the food was very good. APOO thought it was very spicy. I thought it wasn't too spicy. I was a little disappointed that there were no real vegetables to speak of, save for a few onions in the curry. Of course, the menu said "Malaysian Chicken Curry", so it WAS what it said.
APOO: DMSC just can't get enough of veggies. And yes, I thought the curry was really spicy but even the customer that sat next to us said it wasn't too spicy. I just have low tolerance.

IG: The Malasian chicken curry was delicious and not too spicy for me. One of Betty's regular customers came and asked if she had any coconut rice but she hadn't cooked any today but would be preparing some tomorrow. Bummer, no coconut rice today!
DMSC: The cashier/cook/owner lady was actually pretty nice. She was telling us that she was born in Hong Kong but grew up in Singapore and she speaks Cantonese.
IG: The GD was originally on Pauahi Street in Chinatown before moving to Kahala Mall. I remember eating at the GD in Chinatown and how delicious the food was, even though everything was in styrofoam containers. I was surprised at how small this restaurant was after moving from Kahala Mall where the rent was $10,000 a month!!
DMSC: After lunch, IG told us that he likes pickled pigs feet. I think he was trying to tell us something deeper. But maybe I don't want to know what he was trying to tell us.
IG: DMSC and APOO have been bugging me about my fetishes, so I told them about my feet fetish: pickled pig's feet, chicken feet, crow feet, toe jam, etc, etc. BUT noooo, that wasn't enough to satisfy their curiosity (hehehe). Stay tuned for more... (maybe!)
APOO: Wait a minute, pigs feet? I thought it was....nevermind. You see, IG is doing it again. He lures us into a conversation that he barely started and then ends it in the next sentence. How are we supposed to have a normal conversation like that. BTW, welcome back IG! You better not run away again and purposely forget your password :)
